Super Eagles full back, Ola Aina is set to make his 29th league appearance for Torino when they host Sassuolo in a Serie A clash on Sunday. The 22 year-old Nigerian international is one of the eight defenders listed in the 20 man squad for the encounter billed for the Olimpico Grande stadium.
Aina, on a season loan deal from Chelsea has been outstanding for Torino this season and will be eager to help the Bulls secure an Europa League qualification for next season with three league games left to play.Walter Mazzarri’s side have lost only one of their last 15 games, and were unlucky not to have defeated Juventus in the Turin derby which ended in a 1-1 draw.
However, Sassuolo are in decent form too, as they unbeaten in their last six matches including a win away to Fiorentina and a draw at Lazio. Aina spent last season on loan at Hull City, has been with the Blues since the age of 11 after joining the youth academy back in 2007.
Aina has been on loan at Torino this season and the Serie A club included an option to sign him for £8.7million as part of the deal. The 22-year-old was expected to leave but Chelsea have been forced to look at him again. Chelsea don’t want to let Aina go as they wait on FIFA’s decision on their appeal against a transfer ban. The full back has been long talked up by those at Chelsea but has only made three appearances for the club since his debut in August 2016.
Eddie Newton, Chelsea’s loan technical coach, recently gave an insight into Aina’s development.Newton said: ‘We’ve always known Ola has got exceptional talents – physical, technical, uses both feet, quick, powerful boy but the question mark over his head was his concentration throughout 90 minutes.
He has proved he can do that and been consistent this season. ‘I’m really proud of him because he’s mentally tuned in now and I think we have to really start taking him seriously.’
