The president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has reacted to the Super Eagles’ win over South Africa in the quarter-final of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite having little possession, the Super Eagles, in the first half, got the opening goal via Samuel Chukuweze. The South African’s equalised in the 71st minute via Bongani Zungu.
William Troost-Ekong got the winning goal for Gernot Rohr’s side in the 89th minute to put Nigeria in the last four.
In a message issued via his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, Buhari said the team is close to winning a fourth Afcon trophy after their win over the Bafana Bafana.
Buhari said: “The trophy in our hands for the fourth time is almost accomplished for the high-flying Eagles.”
“What they have achieved so far is pleasing to Nigerians, irrespective of their ethnic, religious or political inclination.’’
Nigeria will meet the winner of the other quarter-final clash between Algeria and Ivory Coast.
